KOMAGE success story
Pressing and automation solutions for thin disks

KOMAGE's Techcenter has been the birthplace of several technologies, developing solutions for the automatic production of complex products and enabling the automatic production of parts in different materials.

One of the most successful solutions developed at KOMAGE in recent years is a system for the automatic production of thin panes. With this system it is also possible to press panes consisting of two or more layers of different materials (multilayer).

Prior to this new technology, these products were not usually pressed in an automated manner. In most cases, the filling process was done manually, and the quality of the part depended heavily on the skill and experience of the operator. Also the handling of the pressed disks was done manually due to the fragility of the pressed part.

KOMAGE has developed an automatic die filling system that allows the production of disks in different materials, such as hard metal, ceramic and metallic materials, with diameters up to 200mm (currently) and thicknesses starting from 0.5mm (pressed part), with parallelism
under 0,02mm.

For the automatic production of the pressed parts, KOMAGE has also developed customized automation solutions that are able to remove the parts from the die without damage and to perform additional operations such as cleaning, multi-point thickness measurement and weight control. Parts found within specifications are placed on sinter trays or belts according to the customer's needs.

Typical applications for this technology include the production of carbide saw blanks, thermal battery elements, and sensor components.
